Hey everyone! How are you surviving the new school year? Every day, I get on FB and in my OT groups and Teachers Pay Teachers groups, the one common thing that I read about is how difficult it is to stay organized and to plan things this year. Planning and organization skills are two of the skills known as executive functioning skills. These are important in all aspects of our lives, from getting ready in the morning for school (if you are a student) or work, to completing work tasks during the day, or childcare, preparing meals for the family, and so much more.
Now, imagine that you had ADHD, autism, or any of the other developmental disorders that our students might have to deal with on a daily basis. These students often struggle with EF skills. Planning how to do projects, figuring out when things need to be done on a daily versus weekly basis, and following a schedule can all be things they struggle with.
I have been busy working on a fun game that addresses EF skills for kids who are developmentally 8 years old and up. The game has categories with questions using clocks, calendars, and organization systems. So far, the kids who have trialed it have enjoyed playing it. Each kid is challenged with some of the types of questions, but have success with others, making it just right for their needs. Stay tuned for it to show up in my TpT store.
In the meantime, check out these products for fun ways to work on EF skills:
